Effects of Anaerobiosis and Subsequent Treatments with Merit Blue and Allium Formulae on Budbreak in ¢¥ Campbell Early ¢¥ and ¢¥ Muscat Bailey A ¢¥ Grapevine Cuttings

Abstract
Effects of anaerobiosis (anoxia) with or without subsequent treatments with Merit Blue (MB), garlic- (G) and onion juice (O) on days to budbreak and percent budbreak of ¢¥Campbell Early¢¥ and ¢¥Muscat Bailey A (MBA)¢¥ grapevine cuttings were studied. Anaerobiosis up to 72 h proportionally reduced the days to budbreak in ¢¥Campbell Early¢¥ while ¢¥MBA¢¥ responded similarly except slight increase in 72 h soaking, resulting in 13 and 9 days reduction for 2 cultivars. Effects of dormancy-breaking agents (DBA) without soaking were homogeneous, and resulted in reduction of days to budbreak for 1012 days in ¢¥Campbell Early¢¥ and 5-6 days in ¢¥MBA¢¥. Subsequent treatment of MB and G in ¢¥Campbell Early¢¥ and all DBA in ¢¥MBA¢¥ after 24- and 48 h-soaking reduced the days to budbreak. Anaerobiosis increased the percent budbreak of ¢¥Campbell Early¢¥ and ¢¥MBA¢¥, and that of ¢¥MBA¢¥ decreased as the duration of soaking extended. In ¢¥Campbell Early¢¥, DBA increased the percent budbreak by 20-34% among which MB showed 97.3%, and subsequent treatments of DBA increased the percent budbreak by 17-18% than soaking or DBA without soaking. In ¢¥MBA¢¥, G and MB increased the percent budbreak by 1820% with respective 99 and 97.5%. Subsequent DBA treatments after 24 h resulted in 99% budbreak, and the percentage decreased thereafter.
